Holland or Lincoln: Your Pickup Location Decides

Every Manhattan-to-EWR trip faces the same core decision: which tunnel to cross the Hudson. From Midtown and Uptown, the Lincoln Tunnel (West 30s–40s via Dyer Avenue) feeds onto NJ Route 3 and the Turnpike south. From Downtown Manhattan (FiDi, Tribeca, SoHo), the Holland Tunnel (Canal Street) connects to I-78 and the Turnpike from the south. Your chauffeur picks the tunnel with the shorter approach queue.

Unlike JFK's regulated $70 flat taxi fare, there is no flat taxi fare from Manhattan to Newark. Taxi trips are fully metered ($50–$80+ before tip), with tunnel tolls and NJ Turnpike tolls added on top. A tunnel backup can add $15–$20 in meter time alone. A pre-booked car service quotes a flat rate at booking that holds regardless of tunnel delays.

For arrivals, every EWR transfer includes complimentary flight tracking, 60 minutes of wait time for domestic flights and 90 for international, and optional meet & greet ($25) inside the terminal. NYC congestion pricing (starting 2025) may also affect tunnel choice for some Manhattan origins—your chauffeur factors this into routing.

The Manhattan → EWR Challenge

Every Manhattan-to-Newark trip involves three variables: which tunnel, which Turnpike approach, and which terminal.

The Tunnel Decision

The Lincoln Tunnel (W 30s–40s) feeds onto NJ Route 3 and the Turnpike south to EWR—the default from Midtown and Uptown. The Holland Tunnel (Canal St) connects to I-78 and the Turnpike from the south—better from Downtown. Your chauffeur picks the tunnel that avoids the longer approach queue.

NJ Turnpike Routing

Once through the tunnel, both routes converge on the New Jersey Turnpike for the final approach to EWR. The Turnpike handles heavy commercial truck traffic alongside airport-bound cars. Your chauffeur monitors the Turnpike in real time and may use local alternatives (Routes 1&9, I-78) when the main artery backs up near the EWR interchange.

Three Terminals

EWR has Terminals A, B, and C, each with different curbside flow and pickup procedures. Terminal C is the United hub. Terminal B handles many international carriers. Terminal A serves domestic airlines. Sharing your airline and flight number at booking ensures correct terminal routing and curbside coordination.

Lincoln vs Holland: The Tunnel Decision

Your Manhattan pickup location determines which tunnel gets you to New Jersey fastest. Here's when each one wins.

Lincoln Tunnel

Best from Midtown & Uptown (30th St and above)

  • Entrance at W 39th–42nd and Dyer Avenue
  • Three tubes; heaviest traffic tunnel in the world
  • Feeds onto NJ Route 3 → NJ Turnpike south → EWR
  • Toll: E-ZPass, included in your flat rate
  • Avoid: weekday 7:30–9:30 AM and 4:30–7 PM approach queues

Holland Tunnel

Best from Downtown Manhattan (below 14th St)

  • Entrance at Canal St / West St / Varick St
  • Two tubes; narrower, no trucks over 13′6″
  • Feeds onto I-78 West → NJ Turnpike → EWR
  • Toll: E-ZPass, included in your flat rate
  • Avoid: Saturday evening outbound backup; construction closures

Car Service vs Transit: The EWR Comparison

NJ Transit offers a rail connection, but the AirTrain situation in 2026 adds complexity. Here's how the options stack up.

OptionCostTimeTransfersBest When
NJ Transit + AirTrain~$2440–55 min1 (AirTrain/shuttle)Solo, light bags, near Penn
Yellow Taxi (metered)$50–$80+35–90 minNoneOff-peak, risk tolerance

NJ Transit fare: Penn Station to Newark Airport Station ($15.25) + AirTrain ($8.25). Taxi fares are metered + tolls + surcharges.

2026 Advisory: AirTrain Replacement

If you're considering NJ Transit to EWR this year, there's a significant change to be aware of.

AirTrain Newark Replacement Program

Beginning January 15, 2026, AirTrain service at Newark Airport Station is replaced by Port Authority shuttle buses from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM on most weekdays as part of a multi-year replacement. AirTrain operates normally on most weekends and some holiday periods.

What this means for travelers:If you're connecting via NJ Transit rail, the shuttle bus transfer between Newark Airport Station and your terminal adds time and complexity compared to the normal AirTrain. Build extra buffer if using rail during affected hours.

How It Works

1

Book Your Transfer

Reserve online or by phone. Provide your Manhattan address, EWR terminal (if known), airline and flight number (for arrivals), and passenger count. We confirm a flat rate and specific pickup time.

2

Flight Tracking Activates

For EWR arrivals, we monitor your flight from departure through landing. If delayed or early, your chauffeur adjusts automatically. No need to call from the tarmac.

3

Manhattan Pickup

Your chauffeur stages at your building entrance, hotel lobby, or office loading zone. No hailing, no surge pricing, no waiting for a rideshare to navigate one-way streets.

4

Tunnel-Optimized Route

Lincoln from Midtown, Holland from Downtown\u2014your chauffeur selects the tunnel based on your address and live traffic. All tolls included. Terminal A, B, or C curbside dropoff at EWR.

Policies for Manhattan ↔ EWR

Flight Tracking

Your inbound Newark flight is monitored from origin to EWR touchdown. The chauffeur stages on the airport loop road and repositions to Terminal A, B, or C curbside once your gate assignment confirms.

Wait Time (Arrivals)

Domestic EWR arrivals: 60 complimentary minutes from actual landing. International flights through Terminal B get 90 minutes since CBP queues at Newark often run longer than JFK. Timer begins at touchdown.

Cancellation

Cancel your Manhattan-EWR transfer 24+ hours out for a full refund. At 12-24 hours, half applies. Under 2 hours, the full fare holds because the chauffeur is already crossing the Hudson or positioning at the tunnel approach.

Meet & Greet

$25 add-on. Your chauffeur stands at the Terminal B customs exit (international) or at the baggage carousel area (domestic Terminal A or C). They handle bags from belt to trunk while you walk straight to the vehicle.

Child Seats

$25 per seat. Strapped in and safety-checked before the vehicle reaches your Manhattan address. For the 45-70 minute Turnpike ride to Newark, proper seat fitment matters more than on a 15-minute crosstown hop.

Tolls & Parking

Lincoln Tunnel E-ZPass, Holland Tunnel toll, NJ Turnpike fare, and EWR terminal road fees are all baked into your quote. Even if the chauffeur reroutes from Lincoln to Holland mid-trip, your price stays the same.

Vehicles for Manhattan to EWR

All vehicles are late-model (2023–2026), professionally detailed between rides. Choose based on passenger count, luggage volume, and the 45–70 minute ride comfort.

Executive Sedan

Executive Sedan

2 passengers | 2 large bags

Slides through the Lincoln Tunnel toll plaza and settles into the NJ Turnpike for the 16-mile run to Newark. Rear USB ports keep your phone charged during the 45-70 minute ride from any Manhattan block.

Luxury SUV

Luxury SUV

6 passengers | 6 large bags

Six passengers, six checked bags, and the stroller all fit without stacking. For the Turnpike haul to EWR Terminal B international departures, families pick this over cramming into two sedans.

Executive Sprinter

Executive Sprinter

Up to 14 passengers

Fourteen captain-chair seats for the post-meeting EWR dash. Luggage bay beneath the cabin absorbs carry-ons so the aisle stays clear during the Turnpike stretch from Manhattan to Terminal A or C.

Why Manhattan Travelers Choose True North VIP for EWR

Vetted Chauffeurs

Licensed and background-checked. EWR-corridor drivers who know the 39th Street Lincoln Tunnel approach, the Canal Street Holland merge, and when to bail to Route 1&9 if the Turnpike stalls past Exit 14.

Flight Tracking

We track your Newark-bound flight from gate push at the origin airport. If it lands 25 minutes early at EWR, the chauffeur is already looping Terminal A, B, or C. If delayed, staging holds at zero extra cost.

Flat Rate, All-In

Tunnel tolls, Turnpike fares, and EWR access roads are all inside your quoted rate. A rainy Tuesday that doubles Uber surge pricing changes nothing about your Manhattan-to-Newark fare.

Tunnel Intelligence

Midtown pickup means Lincoln Tunnel. Downtown pickup means Holland Tunnel. But when the Lincoln approach backs up past 10th Ave, a downtown detour to the Holland can save 20 minutes. Your chauffeur decides in real time.
