NYS Maple Weekend Transportation From NYC
Chauffeur-driven day trips from Manhattan to Hudson Valley sugarhouses for NYS Maple Weekend 2026. Hit 3-4 farms on a custom circuit, taste every syrup grade and maple cocktail offered, and let your driver handle the muddy back roads. Two weekends: March 21-22 and March 28-29.
Mud Season, Back Roads & Maple Cocktails — The Case for a Driver
NYS Maple Weekend is not a single venue — it is 150+ sugarhouses scattered across New York State, all opening their doors simultaneously on two weekends in late March. Organized by the NYS Maple Producers Association, the event offers free tours of working evaporator rooms, tastings of every syrup grade from Golden Delicate to Very Dark, pancake breakfasts, maple donuts, and farm stores. New York produces more maple syrup than any state except Vermont.
The challenge for city dwellers is logistics. Sugarhouses sit on rural back roads — gravel driveways, limited parking, spotty cell coverage, no Uber. March in the Hudson Valley means mud season: unpaved farm access roads that look fine on Google Maps can be ankle-deep in melt. Driving yourself locks one person out of the maple cocktails, maple wine, and maple beer that many farms now pour alongside their syrup samples. And after 8 hours of farm hopping, the 2-hour return drive down the Taconic is a fatigue trap.
True North VIP provides hourly chauffeur service for Maple Weekend day trips from anywhere in our service area — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westchester, New Jersey, Connecticut. Your chauffeur navigates between farms on roads they have driven before, handles parking at each sugarhouse, and drives you home while you doze off with a trunk full of syrup. SUVs accommodate child seats, strollers, and the 15 bottles of Grade A Dark you did not plan on buying.
Two Weekends, 150+ Farms
Maple Weekend runs 10 AM to 4 PM both weekends. Most farms participate both weekends, but individual hours vary — check mapleweekend.com for the interactive producer map.
March 21-22 (Saturday-Sunday)
The opening weekend of Maple Weekend 2026. Expect the highest foot traffic at popular farms, especially Saturday morning between 10 AM and noon. Pancake breakfast lines are longest this weekend. We recommend an early departure from the city (7:30-8:00 AM) to reach the Hudson Valley by opening time and hit your first farm before the crowds arrive.
March 28-29 (Saturday-Sunday)
The second weekend is typically slightly less crowded than the first, offering a more relaxed pace at each farm. Weather is often marginally warmer by late March, and sap flow can be at peak production. Many visitors use the second weekend to explore farms they missed on Weekend 1. Same hours: 10 AM to 4 PM at most locations.
Maple Regions Accessible From NYC
The Hudson Valley is the most practical day-trip maple region from the city. Further regions work for longer days or overnight trips.
Hudson Valley (Closest)
Putnam, Dutchess, and Columbia Counties. 60-120 miles from Manhattan (1.5-2.5 hours). Farms include Hudson Valley Maple Farm in Fahnestock State Park near Cold Spring, Soukup Farms, and Corey's Sugar Shack. Best for day trips: reach opening time with an 8 AM departure from the city.
Catskills Region
Ulster and Sullivan Counties. 90-120 miles northwest of Manhattan (2-2.5 hours). A more rural, mountainous experience with farms at higher elevations. Combine with a lunch stop in Woodstock, New Paltz, or Phoenicia. Accessible as a day trip with 10-12 hours of service.
Capital Region
Albany, Saratoga, and Rensselaer Counties. 140-160 miles north (2.5-3 hours). A large concentration of producers. Better suited for an overnight trip or a very long day (12+ hours). Consider combining with a visit to Saratoga Springs.
Western NY & Finger Lakes
Genesee, Livingston, and Ontario Counties. 250+ miles from NYC (4-5 hours each way). Home to the densest concentration of producers — 68 farms in Western NY alone. Requires an overnight stay; not practical as a day trip from the city.
Adirondacks
Essex, Warren, and Hamilton Counties. 200-280 miles north (4-5 hours). Stunning mountain scenery and traditional sugarhouses. Requires an overnight. Consider combining with a weekend in Lake Placid or Lake George.
Route Planning
We help plan your farm circuit based on the interactive producer map. Our chauffeurs use GPS routing optimized for rural roads — not highway-only directions that miss the scenic farm roads. Share your preferred region and we'll suggest a 3-5 farm itinerary.
