FRG Ground Transportation: What Actually Matters

Republic Airport (FRG / KFRG) is a 530-acre general aviation facility in East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, owned by NYSDOT and operated by Avports. It runs no scheduled airline service—the airport's own FAQ routes commercial flyers to JFK, LaGuardia, and MacArthur. What FRG does run is 240,000-plus annual corporate, charter, training, and fractional operations, making it one of the busiest non-airline fields in New York State.

Ground transportation at FRG is fundamentally different from commercial-airport service. There is no TSA queue, no baggage carousel, no shared curb. Three FBOs—Atlantic Aviation Long Island on the south side, Modern Aviation Farmingdale on the west side, and Republic Jet Center on the north/west side—each have their own driveway, lounge, and ramp entrance. A chauffeur who doesn't know which FBO your flight uses will lose 10–15 minutes circling the field on Grumman Lane. We confirm the FBO at booking.

The routing to FRG is equally specific. Most vehicles take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) to Exit 49 South, then Route 110 south under the LIRR train trestle to Grumman Lane—about 4 miles from the LIE. Passenger cars can also use the Northern State Parkway to Exit 40 South, but Mercedes Sprinter vans and other commercial-plate vehicles are legally barred from the NY parkway system. That rule alone decides whether your group of 10 takes a Sprinter (LIE only) or splits into two SUVs (either route). We plan it at booking.

The Three Things That Decide an FRG Trip

LIE rush-hour congestion, the parkway commercial-vehicle ban, and FBO-specific pickup logistics. Any chauffeur who treats FRG as a generic airport run gets each one wrong.

The LIE Exit 49 Problem

Nearly every FRG-bound vehicle funnels through LIE Exit 49 South onto Route 110, then 4 miles under the LIRR trestle to Grumman Lane. The Queens-Nassau LIE segment is one of the most congested stretches on Long Island in weekday morning and evening peaks. A driver who reads conditions in real time uses the Queens Boulevard local or a parkway diversion when the LIE mainline stacks up. GPS-only drivers sit in it.

The Parkway Commercial Ban

Northern State, Southern State, Cross Island, and the Belt Parkway all prohibit commercial vehicles, with overpass clearances as low as 9–10 feet. Mercedes Sprinter vans registered commercially are legally blocked from every one of them. For groups of 10+ heading to FRG, this is a concrete routing constraint: Sprinter takes the LIE or splits into two SUVs for parkway access. We quote both at booking.

The Three-FBO Question

FRG has three FBOs on three different sides of the field, each with its own driveway off Route 110, New Highway, or the airport perimeter roads. There is no central terminal and no shared signage directing arriving passengers. The FBO name decides which entrance your chauffeur uses—Atlantic on Route 109, Modern on New Highway, Republic Jet Center near the tower. We confirm the FBO before dispatch.

The Three FBOs at Republic Airport

Each FBO functions as a private terminal. Knowing which one your flight uses—and where on the field it sits—is the single most important piece of booking information.

Atlantic Aviation Long Island

9100 Republic Airport, Route 109 (south side) · 24/7

The south-side FBO along NY-109 in the Route 110 corridor. Part of Atlantic's 100+ location national network. Full fueling (100LL/Jet A), deicing, lavatory service, conference rooms, concierge, and ground-handling capability for large charter, international, and cargo operations. Pickup entrance is via the Route 109 driveway just east of the Route 110 intersection.

Modern Aviation Farmingdale

1100 New Highway (west side, industrial corridor)

West-side FBO along New Highway with hangar overflow at 1000 New Highway. Full fueling, ground handling, executive lounge, conference room, customs coordination, and ramp/hangar capacity for Global 6500/7500-class aircraft. Pickup entrance is off New Highway—a different access road from Atlantic's Route 109 driveway. Do not confuse the two.

Republic Jet Center (Signature Select)

7160 Republic Airport (north/west, near control tower)

Premium FBO on the north side adjacent to the tower complex, with a second entrance at 7110 Republic Airport (west). Approximately 100,000 sq ft of facility. Part of the Signature Flight Support Select network, offering Signature benefits while using RJC's white-glove lounge, conference rooms, Part 145 maintenance (Talon Air Maintenance Services), and on-site limo coordination. A $28M expansion has added capacity for large-cabin jets.

U.S. Customs & International Arrivals

Republic is a designated Customs landing-rights airport. Customs and Border Protection operates a terminal office approximately 0900–2200 ET, with at least 24 hours advance notice required from the pilot-in-command. International arrivals park on the main terminal ramp and are marshalled by FBO personnel to the customs area before release to ground transportation. Your chauffeur is informed of the expected customs-clearance window so we stage appropriately rather than assume an immediate deplane-to-curb handoff.

Who We Pick Up for FRG Transfers

The Route 110 corporate corridor, Manhattan hotels, the Hamptons, and the tri-state region—each with its own pickup logistics.

Route 110 Corporate Corridor

Canon USA, Henry Schein, Telephonics, Estée Lauder's Melville operations, and the office parks clustered around Farmingdale State College and Greenway Plaza. Many campuses have security gates—provide the building number and entrance at booking so your chauffeur stages at the correct visitor drop-off.

Manhattan Hotels & Addresses

Midtown hotels are the most common Manhattan origin for FRG transfers—the LIE runs directly east from the Queens Midtown Tunnel. For Financial District and Tribeca pickups, the BQE route adds mileage but often wins on timing when the LIE mainline is backed up. Concierge-coordinated hotel pickup uses the hotel's designated car driveway, not the walk-up entrance.

Hamptons & East End

Southampton, East Hampton, Sag Harbor, Montauk, and the Bridgehampton/Water Mill corridor. Summer Fridays eastbound on the LIE and Route 27 are the worst window of the week; we schedule FRG pickups and Hamptons drop-offs around Friday afternoon peaks whenever the flight schedule allows.

Long Island & Tri-State Coverage

East Farmingdale, Farmingdale village, Melville, Huntington, Massapequa, Bethpage, Plainview, Hicksville, Garden City, Great Neck, and the broader Nassau/Suffolk corridor. We also handle Westchester, Greenwich, and New Jersey origins routing through the Throgs Neck Bridge, Whitestone Bridge, or GWB and continuing east on the LIE to Exit 49.

When FRG Gets Busy

Unlike a commercial airport with continuous all-day banks, FRG runs on event-driven surges. Knowing when they hit lets us book the right vehicle and departure window.

Hamptons Season

Memorial Day → Labor Day

  • Friday eastbound: FRG departures packed
  • Sunday evening westbound: returns stack up
  • FRG→HTO/FOK: 10–15 min charter hop
  • Large-cabin jets stay at FRG, lights hop east
US Open Tennis

Late August → Early September

  • Flushing Meadows is ~25 mi from FRG
  • Brokers list FRG as a preferred LI option
  • Night sessions end 11 PM+—late departures
  • Corporate hospitality → FRG direct return
Corporate Events

Year-Round Peaks

  • Weekday 6–9 AM: corporate departures
  • Weekday 4–7 PM: returns to Route 110
  • Ryder Cup-type events: 200+ jets at FRG
  • Film/TV productions use ramps episodically

The airport's WWII heritage—Republic Aviation built 9,087 P-47 Thunderbolts here between 1941 and 1945—is preserved at the American Airpower Museum on the field.

Booking Your FRG Transfer

1

Share the FBO Name

Tell us whether your flight uses Atlantic Aviation, Modern Aviation, or Republic Jet Center. If you don't know yet, your charter operator or flight department will confirm—FBO assignment drives every other step.

2

Tail Number Tracking

For FRG arrivals, provide the aircraft tail number (N-number) rather than a commercial flight number. We monitor the aircraft via FlightAware-class data so ramp timing matches actual wheels-down, not estimated schedule.

3

FBO-Entrance Staging

Your chauffeur arrives at the correct FBO driveway 10–15 minutes before estimated arrival. For international flights, we stage for the customs clearance window rather than assuming immediate release.

4

Route Decision at Departure

LIE vs Northern State for passenger vehicles, LIE-only for Sprinters. For Hamptons continuations, Sunrise Highway or Route 27 selection happens live based on summer-Friday conditions, not blindly from GPS.

Policies for Republic Airport Service

Tail-Number Tracking

Private aviation uses aircraft tail numbers, not commercial flight numbers. Provide the N-number at booking so we can monitor the actual aircraft rather than a scheduled flight that may not exist in commercial feeds.

FBO Wait Time

For FRG arrivals, complimentary wait time covers the deplane-to-lobby interval plus reasonable delay windows. For ATC flow-control holds that delay the departing aircraft, we reposition rather than charge running wait on an inbound leg.

International / Customs

International arrivals at FRG clear U.S. Customs in the main terminal. We stage for the customs-clearance window (typically 15–45 minutes depending on paperwork and CBP officer availability) rather than deplane-to-curb timing.

Cancellation

24+ hours: full refund. 12–24 hours: 50% fee. 2–12 hours: 75% fee. Under 2 hours: 100% fee. Long-distance routes (Hamptons, Greenwich, Philadelphia) apply a 48-hour cancellation window due to dedicated-vehicle commitment.

Meet & Greet

$25 add-on. For FRG pickups, meet & greet means the chauffeur meets you inside the FBO lobby with a name sign and handles luggage transfer. Not usually necessary for private aviation—the FBO lobby is small and direct.

Child Seats

$25 per seat. Infant rear-facing, convertible, and booster options pre-installed before pickup. Common for families flying private into FRG for Hamptons summer stays or corporate relocations through the Route 110 corridor.

Vehicles for Republic Airport Transfers

Late-model (2023–2026) executive fleet, detailed between every ride. Sprinter routing notes apply because of the NY parkway commercial-vehicle ban.

Executive Sedan

Executive Sedan

2 passengers | 2 large bags

Luxury SUV

Luxury SUV

6 passengers | 6 large bags

Cadillac Escalade ESV or Mercedes GLS. Handles families with Hamptons luggage, international baggage for FRG→JFK connections, or child seats. Parkway-eligible—faster routing when LIE stacks up.

Executive Sprinter

Up to 14 passengers

Mercedes Sprinter with captain's chairs. Corporate groups flying private from FRG, or splitting a charter among multiple passengers. LIE-only routing—cannot use Northern State, Southern State, Cross Island, or Belt Parkway.
