How long is the drive from Newark Airport to Manhattan?
Without traffic, Newark Airport to Manhattan is about 27 to 32 minutes and 13.5 to 17 miles, by routing estimates for the three trips below. Downtown is the shortest run, through the Holland Tunnel. Midtown and the Upper East and West Sides use the Lincoln Tunnel. Weekday rush hours and tunnel queues add time, so plan for more.
| Trip | Distance | Drive time without traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal C to The Plaza (5th Ave and Central Park South) | 16.7 mi | about 32 min (estimate) |
| Terminal C to Equinox Hotel, Hudson Yards | 15.5 mi | about 30 min (estimate) |
| Terminal B to One World Trade Center | 13.6 mi | about 27 min (estimate) |
Drive times are estimates (OSRM free-flow routing with no traffic, checked Oct 30, 2026). Traffic varies, and rush hour, weather, tunnel delays and airport construction add time.
Which route does the chauffeur take, and what tolls apply?
Two tunnels carry most Newark Airport to Manhattan trips. For Midtown and uptown, the chauffeur takes US 1 and 9 north, then Route 495 into the Lincoln Tunnel. For downtown, Route 139 and I-78 lead to the Holland Tunnel. The driver picks by traffic and your address.
| Road or crossing | What it does on this trip | Toll |
|---|---|---|
| US 1 and 9 | Main road north from the airport toward both tunnels | No toll |
| Route 495 and Lincoln Tunnel | Midtown, Hudson Yards and uptown addresses | Toll entering New York |
| Route 139, I-78 and Holland Tunnel | Downtown, Tribeca, SoHo and the Financial District | Toll entering New York |
| West Side Highway (Route 9A) | Runs along the Hudson to the Battery and Brookfield Place | No toll |
The Port Authority collects Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel tolls only from drivers entering New York (panynj.gov), and that toll is already in your price. Manhattan at or below 60th Street is in the MTA Congestion Relief Zone, where black car trips carry a $0.75 charge (MTA). That is in the price too.
Is a car service better than the train, bus or taxi from Newark?
It depends on bags, group size and where in Manhattan you are going. NJ TRANSIT reaches Penn Station in about 30 minutes, with the AirTrain fee included in the fare, and the Newark Airport Express bus runs to Grand Central, Bryant Park and Port Authority. A car takes you door to door, with no transfers.
| Option | Door to door | Transfers | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private car service | Yes, terminal pickup point to your door | None | Bags, families, late arrivals, a set pickup |
| NJ TRANSIT train | No, AirTrain to the rail station, then Penn Station | AirTrain plus train | Light luggage going near Penn Station |
| Newark Airport Express bus | No, three Midtown stops | One bus | Light luggage near Grand Central or Port Authority |
| Taxi | Yes, from the taxi stand | None | No booking; zone fares plus fees and tolls |

Where will the chauffeur drop me in Manhattan?
The chauffeur takes you to the exact Manhattan address you enter: a hotel entrance, an apartment lobby or an office tower. For hotels, give the hotel name. For large buildings, add the entrance or cross street in the notes, as some Midtown and downtown blocks have security lanes where cars cannot stop.
| Manhattan drop-off | Tip |
|---|---|
| Hotels such as The Plaza or the Equinox Hotel | Give the hotel name; the car uses the hotel drive or main entrance |
| Hudson Yards | Name the building; some entrances are on 33rd Street, others inside the Yards |
| World Trade Center and Brookfield Place | Name the building and street; security streets limit where cars stop |
| Apartment buildings | Add the doorman entrance or the side street door |
How does waiting time work?
Waiting time depends on the pickup. Home, hotel and office pickups have a 15-minute grace period, after which waiting time applies. Airport arrivals have a 60-minute wait time after a domestic landing and a 90-minute wait time after an international landing, counted from when the flight lands, and every airport pickup includes flight tracking, so an early or late flight moves your pickup with it.
| Pickup type | Grace period or wait time |
|---|---|
| Regular pickup (home, hotel, office) | 15 minutes |
| Domestic flight arrival | 60 minutes after landing |
| International flight arrival | 90 minutes after landing |
| Flight tracking | Included on airport pickups |
See the wait time policy for the full terms, and add meet and greet if you want the chauffeur inside the terminal.

Can I book a multi-leg trip?
Yes. A multi-leg trip puts several stops or legs on one booking, such as a Midtown hotel drop for one traveler, then an office downtown. Add each stop at /book and the all-in price covers the whole trip. If the car should wait at a stop, hourly service at $120 per hour, 3-hour minimum, may fit better.
